So my pops is a gigantic fan of the George Soros, and though I’m therefore completely biased, I’m a fan as well. He’s Hungarian, brilliant, survived the shit, and continues to make that cash (over $2B last year). On top of this his organization the Open Society Institute has been giving away around $500MM a year for as long as I can remember (often to places and people no one else will touch, for no good reason). I just had to put the following quote in, compliments of pops, from an article at The Bing Blog.
Soros in response to being questioned as to the longevity of the housing crisis: “Well, it depends on when the authorities wake up, because you need to reduce the number of foreclosures. You need to keep as many people as possible in their houses so that they don’t come onto the market. You need to arrest the decline in house prices, but you also need to prevent human suffering and social disruption because it’s going to be very, very severe. Certain communities are already hurting and it’s going to get a lot worse. So action will have to be taken, but I don’t think it’s going to happen during this administration.”
Not that it’s hard to make me tear up, but that such a wealthy, successful guy, with a family and a company and plenty enough years under his belt to retire can still be working so hard, and also caring so much…just unbelievable. Then again, I guess I’m just a leftie pinko…that’s alright, pink matches my jacket.
